Worried about taking your little ones to Sin City? We get it! There’s no denying the fact that Las Vegas is a playground for adults, but it’s a huge misconception to think the big kids get to have all of the fun.
In reality, there are a ton of family-friendly activities to enjoy in and around Vegas. Today, we’re sharing a quick guide to seven of our favorite spots, which are perfect for those days when everyone wants to stay and play together.
Read on to discover the best things to do in Las Vegas, no matter what age you might be!
- Visit Las Vegas Mini Grand Prix
Planning to visit Vegas with the kiddos? Make sure to pencil in a trip to Las Vegas Mini Grand Prix. Known as the city’s premier family fun center, it’s filled with enough activities to keep your crew entertained all day long.
The big attraction here is the go-kart course, with four tracks that range in skill and adrenaline level. There are also carnival-style rides, such as the Tornado Twister and the Dive Bomber, as well as tall slides and a fully-stocked arcade. Plan to come early and stay as long as you can!
- Go to the Discovery Children’s Museum
The Discovery Children’s Museum is a great place to go anytime with kids, but it’s especially ideal on a rainy day. Here, there’s no shortage of activities and programs designed to keep your children entertained all day.
Start by checking out the innovative, hands-on maker space inside the Discovery Lab — the first of its kind in southern Nevada! The facility is designed to provide a unique learning experience and workspace specifically crafted to stimulate exploration. Then, start your tour of the three-level museum. Before you leave, make sure to let the kids try out The Summit, a 70-foot, 12-level tower that offers 2,200 square feet of climbing space!
Around the grounds, there’s also a life-sized pirate ship, an eco-friendly mini-city, a water world, and even a family theatre. Chances are you’ll want to buy an annual pass before the visit’s up!
- Take In a Magic Show
There’s a reason that one of Vegas’ nicknames is The Entertainment Capital of the World! When you’re here, you’re never too far from a world-class show of some kind. As you’re vacation planning with pint-sized ticketholders in mind, stick to a clean magic show that you know even the tiniest ones will love.
Some of the most prolific and best-loved performers include:
- Penn and Teller
- Mat Franco
- David Copperfield
- Nathan Burton
- Frederic Da Silva
- Shin Lim
- Mac King
To gain further insight into the venues where each act will be performing and the corresponding showtimes, a simple online search should work. It is worth noting that most shows will explicitly indicate the age range that is most suitable for their content and oftentimes may require an adult to accompany any underage patrons.
- Check Out the Atomic Museum
When you have children in tow, there’s nothing like combining entertainment and a little academics, too! Kids learn best by exploring and playing, and educational museums are an ideal way to pique their interest.
The Atomic Testing Museum is dedicated to showcasing the extent and effects of nuclear testing. Designated as a Smithsonian affiliate, the facility brings to life the fascinating history of the nuclear weapons testing program at the Nevada Test Site. A few of the main exhibits include:
- Spy: Spotlights how the National Security Agency gathers telemetry intelligence from foreign governments
- Pop Culture: Spotlights the atomic bomb’s effect on everything from T.V. shows to toys
- Davy Crockett: Spotlights some lesser-known nuclear weapons, including the Davy Crockett XM-388 projectile
- Diagnostic Rack: A giant replica of a real diagnostic rack located in the underground testing gallery
- Phoebus-2A: An authentic nuclear reactor built as part of Project Rover
In addition to these primary exhibits, Atomic maintains a list of entertaining rotating exhibits. Year-round, special events, such as field trips, STEM Saturdays, STEM camps, and lectures/panel discussions, are also offered.
- Brave the Shark Reef Aquarium
Did you know there’s a kid-friendly aquarium right in Mandalay Bay? Known as the Shark Reef Aquarium, it’s a must-see for any family staying nearby. In all, the space houses a staggering 2,000 animals, including stingrays, sea turtles, and of course, sharks.
If you just want to view the creatures, take a walk along the shipwreck, where you can gaze up at them from below. If you want a more interactive visit, you can reach your hand into the touch pool or view a feeding session. There are even programs that allow you to dive among the sharks and feed them yourself!
- Indulge Your Sweet Tooth at Hershey’s Chocolate World
What kid doesn’t like chocolate? If yours have a refined sweet tooth, you definitely need to plan a stop at Hershey’s Chocolate World! Here, you can take a tour that shows you every step the tropical cocoa bean must take before it’s made into the yummy stuff on your grocery store shelf.
You can also design a custom candy bar wrapper, browse the incredible wall of candy, or enjoy fresh baked goods and milkshakes from the on-site bakery! While the main Hershey’s attraction is at the Pennsylvania headquarters, the Vegas location packs a sweet punch.
- Try Out the Adventuredome
Staying anywhere near Circus Circus? If so, you can’t do a trip to Vegas without planning a stop at The Adventuredome! This is a five-acre indoor amusement park featuring 25 different rides and attractions.
On certain nights, the park dims the lights and illuminates everything in bright neon, creating a super-cool sensory experience you’ll never forget. From laser challenges and rock climbing to mini golf and the all-new Virtual Reality room, there’s plenty to do and no chance you’ll be bored.
